Lately it’s all about the old traditions and crafts and artisan baking are once again having their moment in the sun. With the Great British Bake Off being the surprise hit of the summer of 2010 making stars of Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood and the “curse of the soggy bottom”. There was also resurgence in knitting which became the “in” thing with all the cool kids having a go and ‘stitch and bitch’ sessions popping up all over the place.

Well now it’s the turn of sewing with the Great British Sewing Bee looking to do what the GBBO did before it. Two of my friends recently bought sewing machines and signed up to classes with When Poppy Met Daisy, a Dublin-based sewing and fashion school. And to my surprise I actually really enjoyed the programme. I can see many potential designers taking inspiration. Making your own is now in vogue – it’s all about being original. Be sure to tune into the final tonight on BBC2 @ 8pm and see who is crowned the winner – will it be Lauren, Ann or Sandra? I’d like to see Lauren win but my money’s on Ann. What next, crochet perhaps? It is nice to have a creative outlet and if that be knitting, sewing, baking, crochet, writing or whatever else you fancy enjoy!
