Started the week with one great band and ended it with another…Clock Opera are definitely one to watch for 2012! The support band were Electric Penguins who are in a similar musical genre. The Academy 2 is an intimate basement venue and Clock Opera drew a small crowd. Clock Opera are described as “avant pop” but their sound is eclectic ranging from pop to heavy rock to electronica. As well as the “instrument de jour” synthesisers featuring strongly, they also introduced the cowbell. I really liked their new song which they shared with us having played it the previous night for the first time. They also played my favourite ‘belongings’ which is an excellent tune especially the way it builds to a crescendo. Another favourite is ‘once and for all’. A truly talented bunch of musicians and am sure we’ll hear a lot more from them in 2012.

They are in Cork tonight so all you Corkonians get yourselves down to Cyprus Avenue, you won’t be disappointed. For everyone else, there’s an album in the pipeline next year!
